Employee Spotlight on Troy

The Man, the Myth, the Legend…meet our property manager, troy!

Troy needs no introduction – but we thought it was high time we shine our employee spotlight on him and share some fun details about Troy in a quick Q&A!

You’re an avid golfer. How long have you helped at the Wichita Open?

This was my 22nd year volunteering as Marshal Chair at the Wichita Open. I manage Marshals on holes 13-18 at Crestview during the Wichita Open. It is four long days, but very enjoyable, working with many of the same friends and volunteers over the years.

We had lots of rain in late June this year. Did it cause delays in the tournament?

This year was held June 25-28 and definitely came with some rain delays. We had two play stoppages on Thursday totaling about 5 hours of delay. We took players off the course twice and took players back to the course twice. Friday, we had a 7-hour flood delay. The Crestview grounds crew did an amazing job getting the course ready for play! We started play at 2:00 pm and played until around 9:00 pm when play was stopped due to darkness. Saturday, we played from 7:00 to 9:00 again. We finished up the third round (typically Saturday’s round) Sunday morning and started the final round Sunday at 10:00. At the end of regulation play (72 holes), we had a three-way tie that took 6 extra holes to determine the champion, Dawson Armstrong. As a Wichita Open volunteer, I always say we don’t want any weather delays or a playoff. This year we had about the longest delays and most playoff holes we’ve seen!

Besides the rain, what else made the 2026 Wichita Open different?

This year marked a tour change for the Wichita Open. We had previously been with the Korn Ferry Tour. This was our first year on the PGA Tour Americas. The PGA Tour Americas members are trying to get to the Korn Ferry and then on to the PGA Tour. The Wichita Open Korn Ferry purse was $1,000,000 total and $180,000 to the winner. The PGA Tour Americas purse was $225,000 total and $40,500 to the winner.

How did you get started at U-STOR?

I started with Anderson Management in October of 1983, working construction. Early on, I was on the construction crew that built several of the U-Stor Self Storage properties that I now manage. In 1995, I became the Property Manager for the U-Stors. At that time we had 5 properties. We built 2 more for a total of 7 Wichita storage locations.

What are some things people might not know about you?

In addition to golfing, my hobbies also include clearing and trimming trees. Maybe an odd hobby, but I enjoy working outside on the property with a chainsaw and a tractor. I had a great dog, Seely, for 13 years. He was a great travel companion. He would stand at the door when we went somewhere just so he wouldn’t get left behind. My wife and I watch a lot of Hallmark movies. They’re all similar, but it is always a happy ending!

We’re so thankful for Troy’s dedication to helping U-STOR grow over the past 40+ years to become one of the best storage facilities in Wichita!
